“Galaxy Note 9 Launch Event, ‘Samsung Unpacked’ Confirmed For August 9”

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9 will be announced at an Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York on August 9. The event teaser hints that there may be upgrades to the device’s S-Pen stylus, but does not reveal much else about the upcoming smartphone.

Recent news indicates that the Galaxy Note 9 has already been certified by the Federal Communications Commission, which could mean the device may be promptly released soon after being announced. The current Galaxy Note 8 was certified in late July of 2017, ahead of its August 23 launch and hit markets on September 15.

While unconfirmed, such an early launch for the Galaxy Note 9 could mean the device may release to consumers ahead of the IFA conference, which takes place from August 31 to September 5 in Berlin. Samsung also prefers to put a decent amount of time between its Galaxy Note launches and the announcement of the upcoming iPhone.

Specs And Features

Innovation on the premium spectrum of the smartphone market has been slow recently, so major rumors surrounding the Galaxy Note 9 have been minimal. Samsung isn’t expected to jump on the top-notch train but the Note 9 will likely retain the signature curved display and thin edges design seen on its recent flagships.

Some rumors suggest a battery upgrade up to 4,000mAh, which would be the first significant power boost on a Samsung flagship since 2016.

Samsung remains one of few manufacturers that continues developing for an onboard stylus. The Galaxy Note 8 introduced new features, such as being able to screencap animated gifs with the S-Pen. It will be interesting to see what new functionalities Samsung can create for the Galaxy Note 9 stylus.

The smartphone is also expected to include standard hardware upgrades, including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 6GB of RAM, 64GB to 256GB of internal storage and potential camera upgrades. It will likely run the latest Android Oreo version.

It is possible Samsung is saving bigger tricks, such as an in-display fingerprint scanner and larger display for its 2019 S-series flagship, which currently being referred to as the Galaxy S10.
