“Are Razer Phone 2 gaming upgrades worth an additional $100”

The Razer Phone 2 is now official as the latest mobile gaming-focused smartphone. The device has a few added tweaks, in comparison to the 2017 Razer Phone, just enough to add $100 to its already hefty price tag.

TheRazer Phone 2 is currently available for preorder for $799 and begins shipping October 22. The original Razer Phone sells for $699.

Coming back with the coveted 120HZ refresh rate for its 5.7-inch display, the Razer Phone 2 also packs 8GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a dual-camera set up with two12-megapixel lenses, an 8-megapixel front camera, and a 4,000 fast charging battery, similar to its predecessor.

Some other Razer Phone 2 specific upgrades include the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip from the Snapdragon 835, Qi fast wireless charging support, an IP67 water resistance rating, and a 50 percent brightness increase for its 1440 x 2560 resolution display, which is also HDR certified by Netflix for. The Razer 2 also features Gorilla Glass 5 protection for its display, up from Gorilla Glass 3 and runs Android Oreo, with further software updates in the pipeline.

The device is available in Mirror Black and Satin Black options with the addition of Chroma RGB animation in its back panel logo. Users can set different lighting effects within an app on the device.

An interesting downgrade is that Razer Phone 2 supports microSD expansion up to 1TB, while the original Razer Phone supports extra storage up to 2TB.

Overall, it will be up to gaming enthusiasts to decide if the Razer Phone 2 is worth the upgrade, if not for the Chroma RGB logo alone. Anyone new to the gaming smartphone world may find the Razer Phone 2 worth the price.
