“When will the Samsung infinity flex smartphone release?”

Samsung hosted its Developer Conference keynote Wednesday morning in San Fransisco, sharing details about several of its upcoming projects, including its foldable display device.

The manufacturer announced its new series of infinity displays, including the Infinity Flex display, which is the display that will be featured on the foldable device. Samsung has not shared major details about the device but did show off a prototype model to demonstrate how it works. The demo hides the actual form factor and style of the device.

Confirming rumors, the Infinity Flex display phone has a 7.3-inch inner screen that works like a tablet when open flat but folds inward like a book or a laptop. On the outside, the device has a cover screen, allowing it to be used as a smartphone.

Justin Dennison, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product marketing, mentioned that mass production of the Infinity Flex display will begin in the coming months and that the company will share more details about the Infinity Flex foldable smartphone during Samsung’s next Unpacked event. While details about Samsung’s next major launch event remain completely unconfirmed, the manufacturer usual release cycle may give some hints on when consumers and fans can next expect to hear about the foldable display smartphone.

Samsung typically hosts two Unpacked events per year. The early-year event showcases the Galaxy S series devices and the late-year event the Galaxy Note devices. The earlier Unpacked event commonly takes place in late-February, in conjunction with the Mobile World Congress Conference in Barcelona. The Galaxy S9, Galaxy S8, and several other models have been announced during this time. This is the most likely timeframe for Samsung’s next Unpacked event and subsequent launch of the Infinity Flex display device.

However, with major innovations on the horizon, Samsung could also opt for a standalone event to showcase its new devices. The Galaxy S7 was announced in mid-March of 2017. There’s a good chance Samsung isn’t looking to stray too far from its current timeframe for early-year launches.

Samsung fans have been waiting five years for the foldable display smartphone as the manufacturer first showcased a prototype of its Youm foldable display at CES in 2013. This shows that Samsung is in no particular rush to get this device to market if it still needs work. Samsung CEO, DJ Koh has mentioned that foldable display smartphone needs to have purpose and function and not be a gimmick device. Still, if Samsung has gotten to the point where it is willing to showcase the actual prototype device ahead of its official launch, consumers can feel assured that the Samsung Infinity Flex display smartphone is coming soon.
