Hold onto your hats if you’re still reeling from the ‘Techtober’ onslaught of devices. There seems to be a ‘Techcember’ brewing, with several devices expected to release within weeks of one another.
Smartphone makers Vivo, Samsung, and Huawei all have smartphones to showcase in December. Each is expected to feature at least one of the latest technology trends. From dual-screens to triple-lens cameras to in-display front-cameras, these devices are set to reveal the 2019 device trends before the New Year. Check out the details below.
Vivo NEX 2
Chinese manufacturer Vivo has released a teaser for its upcoming device, the Vivo NEX 2, confirming its dual-display design ahead of its prospective December 10 launch. The device has been subject to several leaks as of late. A number of renders and live leaks have surfaced, highlighting the device’s main features, including a triple-lens camera set up and a rear-facing, LED notification ring, and a time-of-flight 3D scanner for facial-recognition.

Hardware and design rumors suggest a 6.59-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 10 GB RAM, 128 GB storage and Android 9 Pie for the Vivo NEX 2. Its triple-camera will likely serve as the device’s sole camera, with the second-screen intended as a viewfinder for taking selfies.
The Vivo NEX 2 is expected to sell for CNY4,498 ($650) and may see availability in Europe, in addition to Asia.
Samsung Galaxy A8s
Samsung’s Galaxy A8s smartphone is also expected to launch December 10 as one of the first devices to have an in-display front-facing camera. The device comes not after Samsung announced its new series of Infinity displays, including the Infinity-O display, which has a hole cut out to accommodate a front-facing camera lens. This allows devices to retain a front-facing camera while allowing an edge-to-edge screen on all sides. Reports indicate the Infinity-O display has been confirmed for the Galaxy A8s via an FCC filing.

The device may have a 6.3-inch LCD display with a 2340×1080 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio, up to 6GB of RAM and a 3,400 mAh battery.
The Galaxy A8s may also include a triple-lens camera set up, possibly with a standard lens, an ultra-wide lens, and a depth-sensing lens. Its front-facing camera is expected to be a 24-megapixel lens.
The device is will likely release in early January, with availability primarily in China.
Huawei nova 4
Huawei’s nova 4 smartphone is expected to launch December 17 and may also have an in-display front-facing camera as one of its primary features. The device was slated to be the first announced with this feature before Samsung slid in with its launch for the Galaxy A8s exactly one week prior. However, Huawei may still have a chance to get its device to market before Samsung if it slates availability in December.
