“LG G8 ThinQ confirmed with major selfie camera upgrades”

LG has confirmed the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone and one of its highlight features ahead of its MWC 2019 launch. The Korean manufacturer announced Wednesday that the flagship will include a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor in its front-facing camera. The sensor, developed by the semiconductor supplier Infineon, will allow for 3D imaging, which will enable biometrics features similar to Face ID on the iPhone. The updated camera will also benefit from improved imaging overall for better selfies.

The LG G8 ThinQ is expected to have an 8-megapixel wide-angle front camera with f/1.8 aperture. While the device will have an updated facial recognition feature, it will still have a rear-facing fingerprint scanner for other biometric options. Its main camera is expected to be a dual set up with a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens.

Other rumored specs for the LG G8 ThinQ include a 6.1-inch display with 1440 x 3120 resolution and 19.5:9 ratio, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip, 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage configurations with microSD expansion up to 512GB, USB-C, and a 3,500mAh battery with 18W quick charging and wireless charging.

For software, the LG G8 ThinQ will likely run Android 9 Pie. The device is expected to have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating and to be MIL-STD-810G compliant. Expected color options include New Platinum Gray, New Aurora Black, and New Moroccan Blue.

LG will unveil the LG G8 ThinQ on February 24 at MWC 2019 in Barcelona.
