“Samsung Galaxy Fold update suggests progress made in fixing display issues”

The Samsung Galaxy Fold may be ready to hit the market, with “most” of the display issues that caused its untimely delay resolved, according to a recent report from The Investor.

Samsung Display Vice President, Kim Seong-cheol gave an update on the Galaxy Fold Tuesday in Seoul at a conference hosted by the Korean Information Display Society. “Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market,” he said.

Samsung has not given very clear answers on what caused the Galaxy Fold to malfunction in such a catastrophic way or when consumers can confidently expect the device to come to market. However, recent reports of rival, Huawei postponing its device, the Mate X could have motivated Samsung to attempt to get its product available to the public sooner.

Many have noted that both Samsung and Huawei tried to rush their foldable smartphones to market before the technology was ready, likely for the accolades of being one of the first major companies to release such a device. Despite Samsung’s insistence that the Galaxy Fold was rigorously rested, handsets quickly suffered display issues days after being distributed to the media ahead of its official launch. The Galaxy Fold has also been in the news lately after AT&T canceled its preorders of the device.

While the Huawei Mate X has not suffered any public malfunctions, the Chinese manufacturer has been extremely selective about having press and other outside sources handle the device.

Earlier rumors suggesting the Galaxy Fold may release sometime in July have since been refuted. There has been little word on the launch schedule for the device other than “in the coming weeks.” Many now believe the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 may launch before the Galaxy Fold. Recent reports pinpoint its potential unveiling date August 7.

Meanwhile, reports say Mate X may release sometime in September. However, Huawei continues to battle its product ban in the U.S., in addition to several international carriers reneging on plans to offer the foldable device on their networks.
