“Huawei Mate 30 Pro September launch expected with Google stripped Android Q”

Huawei will likely announce its next flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 30 on September 19, according to hi-tech.mail.ru.

The Russian publication claims it received details from Huawei president of software development, Dr. Wang Chenglu that the manufacturer will release the device running a Kirin 990 chip on the aforementioned date. Though the report has not been confirmed at this point, it can help dissect some important details about Huawei and its mobile future.

Huawei may be planning an early launch for the Mate 30 to show that its devices are still viable in the market. Huawei typically announces its late-year flagships in the October time frame; however, this year’s launch cycle is much different than those in the past.

Despite the company’s international trading issues, it has surpassed all of its rivals in China in terms of device sales. Some highlight devices already released this year include the Honor 20 and the Huawei P30. These devices got to the market unscathed due to be ready for the market ahead of the U.S. Entity list trading ban. However, the Huawei Mate 30 is gearing up to be the first major device that is directly affected by the sanction.

There have been several leaks of the Huawei Mate 30 in recent weeks, suggesting the device may be near the end of its development. If the September launch date is accurate, we could see other earlier announcements pertaining to the Mate 30. Huawei typically announces its new flagship processors at the IFA conference in early September. However, if the Huawei Mate 30 is set to announce in September we may see the Kirin 990 chip could be announced much sooner.

The manufacturer has already announced its Android Q based EMUI 10 overlay that Huawei announced at its developers’ conference this past weekend, which could be another indication of an impending launch. The software likely won’t include pre-installed Google services, such as Gmail, Google Maps, and Chrome because of the U.S. trade ban. Still, the software will likely be available for at least two models of the upcoming flagship, a standard Huawei Mate 30 and a Mate 30 Pro.

Huawei has also announced its proprietary operating system, Harmony OS. The company claims the software not intended for smartphones but can replace Android at any moment if it becomes necessary. There are already reports that Huawei has a Harmony OS smartphone in the works and that device may be the Huawei Mate 30 Lite.

While it appeared that the heads of U.S. and the Chinese government were coming together to ease the restrictions of the trading man, President Trump has since doubled down on his stance that the U.S. is not doing business with China. The agreement may only pertain to Huawei products that are already on the market. The company has been very vocal about getting its current devices updated to Android Q will full Google support but has not been able to say the same about future devices, despite its commitment to maintaining devices on Android.
