The Oppo Reno 2 will be announced August 28 at a launch event in New Dehli, India. The Chinese manufacturer has teased a quad-lens camera with 20x for the upcoming smartphone.
Camera improvements have long been a top goal for smartphone manufacturers. First on flagships and now on more price-friendly devices. The Oppo Reno 2 may feature one of Qualcomm’s 700 series chips, which were announced in April to address improving camera quality on devices that toe the line between mid-range and premium tier.
The Oppo Reno 2 camera set up is expected to include a 48-megapixel, 26mm wide-angle lens with f/1.7 aperture, a 13-megapixel 130mm “periscope” telephoto lens with f/3.0 aperture, an 8-megapixel 16mm ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Some have compared it to the Huawei Mate P30 Pro due to its periscope lens that will enable its 20x zoom capability.
It will be interesting to see how the Oppo Reno 2 is priced with such a camera set up. Currently, most smartphones with elaborate camera remain in the flagship space, however, devices like the Nokia 9 PureView, which touts a five-lens camera setup, have shown that manufacturers are willing to experiment with photography improvements at a lower price point.
Other potential specs include a 6.43 inch 1080 x 2400 resolution screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion up to 256GB, a 4,065mAh battery with 20W fast charging, and Android 9 Pie with a ColorOS 6 overlay. Color options may include Ocean Green and Jet Black.
The Oppo Reno 2 will release first in India and then to other international markets.
