Qualcomm has officially announced that its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit will take place from December 3 to 5 in Maui, Hawaii. This is where the semiconductor manufacturer is expected to announce its Snapdragon 865 chip, which will run in 2020 flagship smartphones.

There are only a few rumors currently circulating about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip. Details suggest that the SoC will likely be produced by long-time partner, Samsung, using its 7nm EUV process. This process is expected to improve power efficiency on the chip by between 15 and 20 percent. Additionally, the Snapdragon 865 may be outfitted with updated Cortex-A75 custom CPU cores and a new Adreno GPU, which commonly accompanies the latest Snapdragon premium chip.

Those attending the Snapdragon Tech Summit will likely also learn about other advancements and partnerships Qualcomm has in store for the coming year. The company unveiled its extensive partnership with Chinese device maker, OnePlus at last year’s summit, which has been apparent throughout 2019. In addition to introducing smartphones with Qualcomm powered in-display fingerprint sensors, OnePlus has announced a number of 5G smartphones throughout the year.

Qualcomm shared during its recent fourth-quarter earnings, updates about its progress with 5G development and deployment. The manufacturer will likely also have even more information to share on 5G at the tech summit, as well as further advancement in AI, VR/XR, and other continuously relevant technologies.

While there are numerous smartphones that are shoo-ins to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, few have been explicitly detailed. There are rumors that a Sony smartphone, codenamed “Kona” may be among the first to run the chip. Samsung Galaxy S11 rumors have also been picking up lately, with reports having few doubts the 2020 flagship will be Qualcomm powered in LTE markets.

Qualcomm itself has also detailed that smartphones from Samsung and several other Chinese manufacturers will feature its 5G components, which will likely also coincide with running the Snapdragon 865 chip.

Otherwise, Qualcomm remains rather tight-lipped about its technological advancements. Any other details made available will likely be done in early December, in Maui.
