More OnePlus 8 leaks and details have surfaced in recent weeks, which may give an idea of what the Chinese manufacturer has in store for its 2020 flagship.
Most recently, a leak has surfaced showcasing a device with a OnePlus logo, which some believe could be the upcoming smartphone. If accurate, the leak could reveal features including a curved-edge display with a dual hole punch cutout that could indicate a dual-lens selfie camera, a glass design with a purple color option, and potential 5G connectivity. However, there are some pundits who are skeptical and don’t think this device is a prototype from the OnePlus 8 series.
OnePlus shook up 2018 with the introduction of its Pro model smartphones, which have beefier specs and higher price tags than their more standard counterparts. Currently, with most details about OnePlus 8 devices, it’s challenging to differentiate between what may be a standard OnePlus 8 and a OnePlus 8 Pro. But that hasn’t stopped leaksters from sharing what they can.
Informant, Max J recently shared that some OnePlus 8 devices may feature the coveted 120hz refresh rate for its display. The manufacturer just introduced a 90hz refresh rate for both is OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro models, which would make the bump an even more formidable upgrade.
Other rumored specs for the OnePlus 8 Pro, in particular, suggest a 6.7-inch 2K AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, 8GB and 12GB RAM options and up to 256GV of internal storage, a 4,100mAh battery with the latest warp charge technology, and a quad-camera set up, including telephoto, ultra-wide-angle, and ToF lenses. A primary lens may be 60-megapixels with an Imx686 main sensor. The OnePlus 8 Pro could be quickly catching up to more traditional flagships in terms of cost with a EUR900 suggested price.
Some newer details do contradict, now older render leaks that suggest the OnePlus 8 Pro will retain a triple camera and a 90hz refresh rate, among other features. However, there is still a decent amount of time for rumors to solidify. Some reports suggest OnePlus could release a new device as early as January, though its early year devices are typically unveiled in the April to May timeframe.
Currently, we are still waiting for the OnePlus 7T 5G McLaren edition to release to U.S. carriers, including T-Mobile and Sprint. That market launch could suggest some distance between the new 2020 models being announced.
