Samsung may begin updating some of its most recent flagship smartphones to the latest Android 10 software as early as January 2020.
While several models, including the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series have been receiving beta rollouts for some time, Samsung Isreal has detailed that the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy Note 10+ are all set for a software rollout on this tentative timeline.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is also expected to update to Android 10 in January 2020, while the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are expected to update in April 2020. These smartphones will be Samsung’s oldest flagships to update to Android 10. Reports indicate that 2017 devices, such as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 have aged out of the guaranteed system upgrade cycle. Their support will end with the currently running Android 9 Pie.
Still, there are a number of mid-range Samsung smartphones that are also set to update to Android 10 in early 2020. The Samsung Galaxy A30 may see the new software in January in both Isreal and India, while the Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 are slated for a January launch in India specifically.
It shouldn’t be long before other markets begin releasing their own Android 10 updates, once the ball gets rolling on this set of flagship and mid-range devices. Beta software is already available for Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint models of the Galaxy S10, and unlocked models of the Galaxy Note 10. Many lower end Samsung smartphones, as well as tablets, are expected to update to Android 10 a mid later in the year, between April and September.
Meanwhile, several Samsung smartphones are right on time with their December security updates. Models include the Galaxy Note 10 series in 25 European markets and the Galaxy Note 9 in Germany, as well as the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy Note 8 in Panama. Though the Galaxy Note 8 is at end of life for major updates, it should still receive security patches for at least another year. The Galaxy A50 is still a relatively new device, having released in March 2019 and is currently secure within its update cycle.
