Details about the OnePlus 8 continue to surface as the device’s launch date nears.
In most recent news, sources at XDA developers discovered within a OnePlus Launcher update on the Google Play Store, evidence that there will be a Verizon specific model of the upcoming smartphone. The development is interesting considering many unlocked U.S.-based OnePlus models have technically had Verizon band support for several generations, but the network has yet to do a carrier partnership. If accurate, the OnePlus 8 could be OnePlus’ foray into truly collaborating with Verizon. The APK also revealed a T-Mobile model of the OnePlus 8, though the magenta network already has a long-standing relationship with the smartphone brand.
Other recent reports also suggest that the Chinese manufacturer may showcase new devices on April 14. There have long been rumors of a series, which would include a standard OnePlus 8, a OnePlus 8 Pro, and a OnePlus 8 Lite. However, there is word that the Lite model may be announced at a later date, possibly in July.
Accompanying these reports are specs details for the OnePlus 8 Pro and price details for the OnePlus 8 series. The Pro model may include a 6.65-inch AMOLED 120Hz display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, enabling dual-mode 5G support, a quad-lens set up for the main camera and 32-megapixel front camera, and a 4,500mAh battery with fast-charging and 30W wireless charging.
Meanwhile, the Lite model may sell for Rs 37,500, which equates to about lb400 or $506. This device may feature a MediaTek chip and a punch-hole display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Prior rumors have suggested a 6.4-inch display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a MediaTek Dimensity 1000 chip, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB internal storage options, a triple camera set up with 48-megapixel, 16-megapixel, and 12-megapixel lenses, and a 4,000mAh battery with 30T warp charging support.
There have also been several specs rumors for the standard OnePlus 8 model, including three configurations with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a triple camera set up with 48-megapixel, 16-megapixel, and 2-megapixel lenses, and a 4,000mAh battery with 30T warp charging support.
As OnePlus prepares for future launches, the brand is also soliciting new ideas from its fanbase. It has launched on its community forums a new program, called IDEAS, where fans can share suggestions on how to improve or innovate OnePlus products. As an incentive, the brand is offering a VIP ticket to an upcoming OnePlus event to those whose ideas are adopted. Other prizes include 1000 community credit, a Customized Community badge, and A pair of OnePlus Bullets Wireless 2 to the top five most liked ideas, and 20 Community credits for all who submit ideas. The campaign will run from March 5 to April 30, 2020.
