“Confirmed specs, price, and leaked images added to OnePlus 8 series rumor rundown”

The OnePlus 8 series is set to launch on April 14, culminating several months of leaks, rumors, and promotions, but the Chinese manufacturer has opted to confirm several more details about its upcoming devices.

CEO Pete Lau shared a post on the OnePlus forums detailing that the brand will, in fact, announce a standard OnePlus 8 and an OnePlus 8 Pro model. The devices will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip; they will be the first OnePlus models to feature LPDDR5 RAM, and will also support UFS 3.0 storage, and a new feature called Host Performance Booster (HPB) that allows for read and write speeds up to 1,700MB/s.

OnePlus has already confirmed other features, such as 5G connectivity and a 120Hz display (likely for the Pro model), but several other details have surfaced in recent days, putting to rather indicate look at the smartphone series.

Between the confirmed and the still rumored, OnePlus also has some features that are just hinted for its devices, one of those being an always-on-display for the OnePlus 8 Pro. The brand has suggested on social media that it has the feature in its roadmap, but it is not 100-percent confirmed for any of the upcoming devices. Lau has also teased that the OnePlus 8 series will sell for under $1,000 in the U.S. and might be among the cheapest premium tier 5G smartphones on the market once available.

Never the less, these details accompany rumors of a 6.78-inch QHD+ display with HDR10+ and improved haptic feedback for the OnePlus 8 Pro. The device is also expected to include a MEMC (motion estimation/motion compensation) chip to help bring its 120hz refresh rate to life. Additionally, the OnePlus 8 Pro may feature both 30W fast wired and wireless charging.

Another recent leak shared by Pricebaba and tech informant, Ishan Agarwal indicates that the OnePlus 8 Pro will feature a quad-camera set up that includes a 48-megapixel main lens with an f/1.89 aperture, using the latest Sony IMX689 sensor, which has already debuted on the Oppo Find X2, and a second 48-megapixel camera with a 120-degree ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture using the Sony IMX586 sensor. The third camera is an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom, and the fourth a 5-megapixel color filter lens.

In addition to the elaborate camera set up, the OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to introduce various photography features, as a new night portrait mode and 3-HDR video, as well as various new cinematic effects and improved OIS.

Several image leaks have revealed a number of color options for the OnePlus 8 series. Most recently, tech informant, Roland Quandt shared press renders of a model in am “Ultramarine Blue” color option. Other leaked images have revealed Onyx Black, Glacier Green, and Interstellar Glow color options for the devices. There has also reportedly been a live leak of the black OnePlus 8 model, which currently remains unconfirmed due to some differences in the camera set up.

Other feature leaks indicate that the standard OnePlus 8 is set to feature a 6.55-inch FHD+ display with a 90hz refresh rate, a triple camera set up with a 48-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixel macro lens, with a 16-megapixel selfie camera in the front. Hardware may include RAM up to 12GB, internal storage up to 256GB, and a 4,300mAh battery with 30T Warp Charge.

The most predictable feature on all the OnePlus models is Android 10 running natively with the latest version of the OxygenOS overlay.

OnePlus set to host an online-only launch event for the OnePlus 9 series, which will be broadcast on its official website and on YouTube starting at 11:00 a.m. EDT (4 p.m. BST, 5 p.m. CEST, and 8:30 p.m. IST). Due to time differences, many locations may be viewing the unveiling on April 15.
