There are currently murmurs that Samsung is considering plans for the camera set up of its early-year flagship series for 2021.

Though a potential launch would be nearly ten months away, a recent report from Taiwan suggests Samsung may outfit a new Ultra model smartphone with a camera set up that includes a 150-megapixel main lens, a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel macro sensor.

Rumors also vary as to whether Samsung will retain the time of flight (ToF) sensor on this device, which may be called the Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S30. There is already speculation that the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 models may lose this feature. The manufacturer is also reportedly working on several Optical Image Stabilization versions of this Ultra model; one with OIS for the main and telephoto lenses and another with OIS for the telephoto and wide-angle lenses. Overall, it remains too early to tell how the 2021 smartphone series will develop, but it makes sense that Samsung would be looking to outdo itself after the array of technology it has already showcased on 2020 devices.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S20 Ultra earlier this year with a striking 108-megapixel main camera and features, such a 100x space zoom. While still highly rated, the camera experienced many glitches, including issues with autofocus. If the preliminary rumors prove accurate, the brand may continue working to perfect its extreme mobile camera technology on upcoming devices. There are also rumors already circulating that Samsung plans to announce a 150-megapixel ISOCELL sensor later this year. Additionally, the manufacturer has discussed its development of camera sensors with resolutions as high as 600-megapixels.
