“Huawei Mate 40 series includes four models but limited market availability”

The Huawei Mate 40 series is now official and includes the standard Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, and Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition.

The devices are set to launch in November, but and will have availability mainly in China due to various government sanctions in the U.S. and other major markets.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

So far, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro appears to be the star of the show with its launch date in the U.K. set for November 13 and its price for EUR1,199 ($1,418). The smartphone was also spotted briefly on Amazon Germany ahead of launch, for EUR1,299, but that listing has since been taken down.

Specs for the Huawei Mate 40 Pro include a 6.7-inch FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a hole punch in its right corner, with Face ID supported in the front camera. Its also newly announced Kirin 9000 SoC enables 5G and is the first 5nm chip to be commercially available. Huawei claims the Kirin 9000 is 10 percent faster than the Snapdragon 865 Plus; however, many note that Qualcomm has not yet announced its flagship chip for the coming year, which would likely be a better comparison for this component.

The device also includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a 4,400 mAh battery with 66W fast charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. It will be available in Mystic Silver, White, Black, Green, Yellow color options.

Its camera system includes a triple-lens rear set up with a 50-megapixel 23mm wide-angle lens with f/1.9 aperture, a 12-megapixel 125mm periscope telephoto lens with f/3.4 aperture and 5x optical zoom, and a 20-megapixel 18mm ultrawide lens with f/1.8 aperture. Huawei has introduced a “Space Ring” camera module design for all the models to accommodate their many lenses. Its dual front camera set up includes a 13-megapixel lens and a ToF 3D sensor.

All devices in the Huawei Mate 40 series will run Android 10 with the EMUI 11 overlay. They will; however, obviously ship with no Google Play Services installed. Huawei has noted that it is continuously working on its own software ecosystem.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus

Next in line is the Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus, which will sell for EUR1399. In addition to its interesting name, it boasts an elaborate penta-lens rear set up to differentiate as its highlight feature. It includes a 50-megapixel 23mm wide-angle lens with f/1.9 aperture, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, and 3x optical zoom, an 8-megapixel 240mm periscope telephoto lens with f/4.4 aperture and 10x optical zoom, a 20-megapixel 14mm ultrawide lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a TOF 3D sensor. Its dual front camera set up includes a 13-megapixel lens and a ToF 3D sensor.

Otherwise, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus features the same display, processor, battery specs. This model includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage as well as Ceramic Black and Ceramic White color options.

Other features on both the Pro and the Pro Plus include dual speakers and IP68 rating water and dust resistance rating.

Huawei Mate 40

The base model Huawei Mate 40 is still formidable among its higher-spec peers, with an EUR899 pricetag. Huawei adopted a unique Kirin 9000E chip for this device, which has slightly lower graphics power but still enables 5G on the device.

The Mate 40 features a 6.5-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a hole punch. It also includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, a 4,200 mAh battery with 40W fast charging. It will be available in Mystic Silver, White, Black, Green, Yellow color options.

Its camera system includes a triple-lens rear set up with a 50-megapixel 23mm wide-angle lens with f/1.9 aperture, an 8-megapixel 85mm telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and 3x optical zoom, and a 16-megapixel 17mm ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture. Its dual front camera set up includes a 13-megapixel 18mm ultrawide lens with f/2.4 aperture.

Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition

The Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Edition rounds out the series with beefier specs than the Mate 40 Pro Plus, a luxury Porsche-inspired design. It features 12B of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and a EUR2295 price tag.
