Samsung’s latest chipset, the Exynos 1080 is now official as the brand’s first SoC using its 5nm EUV process.

This technology ensures speedy devices despite it being meant more for high-spec mid-range phones, more so than absolute flagships. Samsung announced the new chip at an event in China, detailing that the component will launch first on a Vivo smartphone in early 2021. Rumors suggest that the device may be the Vivo X60, which is expected to be announced in a matter of days.

The octa-core Exynos 1080 is already noted for high performance and power efficiency. It includes four Cortex-A78 cores with one running at 2.8GHz and the remaining three running together at 2.6GHz, in addition to four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0GHz, as well as a Mali-G78 MP10 GPU.

Following the mobile trends, Samsung is taking on this component, which will ultimately go into devices that include many features typically meant for premium smartphones but will be marketed at more affordable price points. The Exynos 1080 also includes a 5G integrated modem, which supports sub-6GHz and mmWave standards, as well as Cat.18 LTE and dual-band Wi-Fi 6. Other highlight features it supports include LPDDR5 RAM, LPDDR4x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB-C.

Other features, which can be enabled by the Exynos 1080 include WQHD+ displays with a refresh rate up to 90Hz and Full HD+ displays with a refresh rate up to 144Hz. Camera options also include single lenses up to 200-megapixels and 32-megapixel+32-megapixel dual-lens setups, in addition to HDR10+ video recording and 4K 60fps.
