Samsung announced on Monday that its experience space in the Meatpacking District of NYC, Samsung 837 is now open for business for the first time since the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020. The brand sent emails and updated its Samsung 837 website with details about the reopening.
“Samsung 837 is where anyone can try out virtual reality, take part in interactive art installations, and see a larger-than-life, three-story screen. It’s home to live music performances, exclusive screenings, and podcast recordings,” Samsung said in a statement on the 837 website.
Samsung also detailed that the space includes an amphitheater area, DJ booth, customer service, and various interactive experiences and that patrons should check back soon for updates on upcoming events. Prior to the pandemic, Samsung would host at 837, everything from fitness classes to book signings to live streams of its product launches.
Notably, the experience space is opening just weeks before Samsung is set to host a Galaxy Unpacked event, where it is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and potentially several other smartphones, wearables, and accessories. With Samsung 837 open the devices may soon be on display for the public to have access to them and test them out before deciding whether they want to purchase.
Samsung 837’s reopening also follows the opening of the first Google Store, which is located in NYC at 9th Ave. and 15th St. The Google Store serves as an experience space, retail store, and a service and device repair location. Samsung, located at 837 Washington St., offers experiences and device repair but does not sell products. Between the two is the Apple retail store at 9th Ave. and 14th St., which sells products and offers servicing and device repair, but is minimal on experiences.
Overall, the Meatpacking District is a bit of a tech hub in NYC. Not far from Samsung 837 is the Tesla Showroom, where fancy electric vehicles gleam in the sunlight. The Squarespace offices are less than 20 minutes south of this area. Meanwhile, Lucid Motors will be newbies in the area, having recently announced the opening of its first New York studio at 2 9th Ave.
