“Pixel 6a to Debut at Google I/O, Sale Delays Expected”

Rumors conitnue to build a picture that the Pixel 6a smartphone is set to be announced at the Google I/O conference in May. Now, the details are more succinct with Google having confirmed the dates of its developer conference for May 11-12.

Tech informant, John Prosser recently shared word about the Pixel 6a launch schedule, Tweeting that it will be showcased at Google I/O. However, the affordable smartphone might see a delay in market availability until July 28.

Google is also apparently teasing a Pixel Watch wearable at Google I/O. The brand has notably been developing its Wear OS software alongside collaborators, such as Samsung for years, but has yet to release its own hardware. Prosser added that the Google plans to release the Pixel Watch as well as the rumored Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in October.

Despite all of the prospective hardware announcements, Google’s highlight for its I/O conference is set to be showcasing the new developments in its upcoming Android 13 software. The software is currently be tested in developer previews, which have the potential to be assisted by the Pixel 6a upon release. The official Android 13 software will likely become available in October alongside the Pixel 7 series.

The Pixel 6a will likely maintain a design similar to the current Pixel 6 series with a 6.2-inch OLED display, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and plastic for its frame instead of metal and glass. The device is expected to use the same Tensor chip as the Pixel 6 series, in addition to a dual-rear camera with a 12.2-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, plus an 8-megapixel front facing lens.
