“Which Smartphones Will Run Qualcomm’s New Mid-Range Chips?”

Qualcomm’s latest mid-range components are set to bring improved performance and higher-end features to low-cost devices during the latter half of 2018. The supplier has announced the Snapdragon 632, the Snapdragon 439 and the Snapdragon 429 chips as the latest in its lineup of processors.

Following the Snapdragon 710 announcement in May, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 is expected to bring features including 4K video capture, artificial intelligence, and LTE speed improvements to devices that may sell for between $100 and $400.

Despite Qualcomm releasing other chips, including the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 in 2017, the new chip is most comparable to the Snapdragon 626, which released in 2016 and can be found in devices including the Vivo V9, the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro, and the Motorola Z2 Play. The Snapdragon 626 helped usher in for these devices, USB-C, and various camera improvements. The Vivo V9, which released in March 2018, featuring a dual-lens camera, which remains a novelty even among many premium tier devices.

The Snapdragon 632 will continue with such camera improvements and speed boosts, such as enabling carrier aggregation with the X9 LTE modem. The chip will likely be seen more in devices outside of the US that release as successors to the above-mentioned smartphones.

The Snapdragon 439 and the Snapdragon 429 will also introduce slightly less powerful dual-camera setups to low range devices as well as speed and graphics boosts to a tier that still often struggles with performance.
