It has been nearly one month since the Samsung Galaxy Fold was supposed to release and there are little to no details about the device’s availability. U.S. retailer, Best Buy has now canceled its Galaxy Fold pre-orders in the wake of Samsung’s silence.
Best Buy recently shared a statement in its user forums, detailing that it has decided to cancel Galaxy Fold preorders for the best interest of its customers. The electronics seller noted that those still interested in purchasing the foldable smartphone can register through the “notify me” option on the Galaxy Fold product page to be updated on if and when the device becomes available.
“We are working closely with all of our distribution partners, including Best Buy, to deliver the Galaxy Fold to customers as quickly as possible. Customers that received a cancellation notice of their pre-order from Best Buy may choose to be notified once the item is available. A new release date for the Galaxy Fold will be announced in the coming weeks. Samsung values the trust our customers place in us and we want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”

Samsung has since responded, telling Android Authority that it is still working to get the Galaxy Fold on the market as soon as possible. However, the manufacturer has not been able to share more concrete details about the device’s availability.
Earlier reports indicated that Samsung would be required by law to cancel preorders of the Galaxy Fold if the device doesn’t ship by May 31. The manufacturer sent notices to customers explaining that they can opt-in to keep their preorder if they desire but without this action, all preorders may soon be canceled. With Samsung’s recent statement, it appears that the Galaxy Fold is nowhere near being ready for shipping by the end of the month.
A mid-May update suggested that Samsung had identified the issues with the Galaxy Fold design and has made the necessary changes to make the device sturdy and safe. But even those reports are third-party accounts and have not been confirmed by Samsung.
