The Alcatel Go Flip 3 is a blast from the past that has been modernized with the addition of Google Assistant. It is the first flip phone for the North American market to have smart assistant integration.

Alcatel has updated its latest KaiOS 2.5 to include the feature and has outfitted the device with a Google Assistant button. The brand is aiming to appeal to older users who may benefit from being able to use Google Assistant for hands-free text message dictation, pulling up numbers for phone calls, and easy app opening and navigation such as Google Search and Google Maps, among other functions. Such a handset may also be a good option for parents to give to young children, who may not be old enough for a smartphone.

Features for the Alcatel Go Flip 3 include a 2.8-inch internal display and a 1.44-inch external display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chip, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion up to 32GB, and a 1,350mAh battery. Alcatel promises up to 7 hours of 4G LTE talk time in a single charge. The flip phone also includes a 2-megapixel camera and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Alcatel Go Flip 3 will be available on T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile in October. It will also sell at AT&T and Cricket Wireless starting September 27, where it will be branded as the Alcatel Smartflip.

The models will have some carrier differences, including T-Mobile’s Alcatel Go Flip 3 having mobile hotspot capability. The flip phone will be able to provide 4G data connectivity for up to eight devices. AT&T’s Alcatel Smartflip will have compatibility with the first responder and public safety network, FirstNet.
