“Mobile World Congress 2020 canceled after several brands pull out”

The international technology conference, Mobile World Congress is officially canceled for 2020, due to health concerns surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The GSMA released a statement confirming its decision to cancel the conference, with the organization’s, CEO, John Hoffman saying, “the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event.” MWC was set to take place between February 24 and 27.

Several companies had already decided to withdraw or truncate their presence at MWC ahead of the official cancelation. These include Sony, Vivo, Apple, Amazon, Intel, MediaTek, TCL, LG, Ericsson, Nvidia, HTC, NTT Docomo, Cisco, Facebook, AT&T, Sprint, Vodafone, Nokia, HMD Global, Huawei, Honor, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, Royole, Xiaomi, and ZTE.

The GSMA says it plans to continue Mobile World Congress in 2021. The conference has been hosted in Barcelona annually since 2006.
