“New Google Pixel 4a release date and price details revealed in leaks”

Information about the Pixel 4a continues to leak and shape a detailed picture of what we can expect of the mid-range smartphone. Most recently, a report from 9to5Google indicates that the device may sell for $349 in a 128GB internal storage option, making it a better deal than its closest competitor, the iPhone SE 2020.

Prior reports suggested that the Pixel 4a price might start at $399 for a 64GB internal storage option. Pundits immediately put the mid-range Android device against Apple’s new budget model, which is essentially an iPhone 11 in an iPhone 8 body with the same $399 price tag.

With a slower processor and less elaborate camera system, the Pixel 4a didn’t appear to be much of a deal, but the updated prices and specs could once again make it an attractive option. If accurate the device would have twice the storage of the iPhone SE 2020 while being $50 cheaper. If there is a 64GB model of the Pixel 4a, it could sell for approximately $299.

Pixel 4a release date delay

While Google would typically be announcing the device at its I/O conference during this time, recent reports from the German tech blog, Caschys suggest that the Pixel 4a launch may be delayed until June. The source obtained documents from the carrier Vodafone, indicating that the device is set to release on June 5. Prior reports suggested a May 22 launch for the Pixel 4a, but there is no indication as to why the date may have been changed. There is also the possibility that the dates could be for the device’s announcement versus its market launch.

While neither date is confirmed by Google, it is notable that the availability dates could vary by region. However, if the June date is accurate, the Pixel 4a launch could come just days after the ‘Android11: The Beta Launch Show’ hosted by Google VP, Dave Burke. The online event may stand as somewhat of a replacement for the I/O keynote, with Burke expected to share with developers, details about the upcoming Android 11 software. Some have also speculated Google could announce the Pixel 4a during this live stream.

Pixel 4a performance

Meanwhile, a major leak showcases processor performance for the Pixel 4a in comparison to other Google devices, including the Pixel 4, the Pixel 3a, and the Pixel 3 XL. The Pixel 4a is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chip, which may allow it to be a more cost-effective device specs-wise. Content creator, Julio Lusson of the Youtube channel TecnoLike Plus recently shared several benchmarks, highlighting the performance of the Pixel 4a and its predecessors. Having previously leaked a Pixel 4a handset in March, Lussson tested the unreleased device against other Pixel models with the AndroBench, AnTuTu, GeekBench, GFXBench, and PCMark 2.0 benchmarks.

While the tools test different degrees of performance, they all painted a similar picture of the Pixel 4a outpacing the Pixel 3a XL midrange model. The Pixel 3a series was well received all around when it launched in Spring 2019, which could bode well for the Pixel 4a, running smoother with slightly higher specs. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 3 XL both feature flagship tier Qualcomm chips, which accounts for their superior performance.

The benchmark also shows the Snapdragon 865 chip, which currently stands as Qualcomm’s most powerful chip, performing better than all of the Pixel devices. There is currently no word on whether Google will release a device with the Snapdragon 865 chip, with current rumors suggesting the Pixel 5 may be another mid-range device running the 5G-powered Qualcomm 765G chip.

Pixel 4a specs

Other features on the Pixel 4a may include a 5.81-inch FullHD+ OLED display, 6GB RAM, a 3,080 mAh battery with 18W USB-C charging, and Android 10. The device may include a rear fingerprint scanner as well as a 12.2 main camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
