The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is official as of Thursday, confirming many of the features that were leaked about the device beforehand.
The smartphone features a front camera system that slides up from its back. This design allows the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 to have extremely thin bezels, as the upper bezels, in particular, are not being used to house camera lenses and other sensors.
According to Xiaomi, 93.4% of the device’s front panel is a functional display. The screen is a 6.39-inch AMOLED with a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution and a 19.5:9 screen ratio. Xiaomi has taken advantage of the special housing for the Mi Mix 3 front camera, outfitting the device with a 24-megapixel dual-lens setup. The main camera on its back is a 12-megapixel dual-lens setup.
Xiaomi will also release a super premium ‘Forbidden City’ model of the Mi Mix 3, which includes a whopping 10 GB of RAM and will come in a special blue color option. Standard models will be available in 6GB and 8GB RAM options, and Onyx Black, Jade Green, and Sapphire Blue color options.
Other hardware for the device includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 128GB, and 256GB internal storage options, a 3,200mAh with 10-watt wireless charging. All models will sell with a 10-watt wireless charging pad.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 has no headphone jack but includes a USB Type-C port and a rear fingerprint scanner, as well as dual frequency GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and the Android 9 Pie operating system.
One previously leaked Mi Mix 3 feature won’t make it to the device right way. The models releasing in November won’t have 5G capability; however, Xiaomi is expected to release a 5G model of the device in 2019. Qualcomm also recently confirmed that Xiaomi is among its 5G hardware partners to get the updated wireless standard into the hands of consumers in the coming months.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will be marketed for Chinese consumers with the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model selling for 3,299 yuan ($475), the 8GB RAM/128GB storage model for 3,599 yuan ($518), and the 8GB RAM/256GB storage model for 3,999 yuan ($576). The device is currently available for pre-order and will release to market November 1.
The Forbidden City model will sell for 4,999 yuan ($720) and will be available in later November. This version will sell with a specially designed casing and will include a gold-plated Chinese figurine.
