“Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Live Leak Shows Off Galaxy Note Design Reimagined”

A recent Galaxy S22 Ultra leak has revealed that the launch for the device, which is expected to take place in February 2022, could essentially be a funeral for Samsung’s once highly coveted, niche Galaxy Note series.

The team at FrontPageTech shared images of a handset it claims is the Galaxy S22 Ultra. If accurate the device is set up very well to take the place of the Galaxy Note series with an S-Pen that has a dedicated space inside the chassis to hold the stylus.

Reports have noted that the device has a design favoring the Galaxy Note 10, with a tall angular frame but rounded edges and corners. A major difference is that it has a matte finish instead of the glossy finish that the actual Galaxy Note 10 models had; however, that could be due to this handset being more of a CAD render mock-up than an actual device.

Nevertheless, the model shows off the quad-camera setup for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which includes a 108-megapixel main lens, 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and two 10-megapixel telephoto lenses with 3x and 10x zoom, in addition to a front-facing camera housed in an Infinity-O display set up. Reports have noted that Samsung’s UDC (Under-Display Camera) technology will remain exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 for some time longer. Finally, images showing the bottom of the model reveal its speaker grates and USB-C port, and its S-Pen in place.

Samsung S-Pen Mixed Bag

This is a vast difference from the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which Samsung introduced earlier this year. However, the fact that the S-Pen was a sold-separately accessory was a source of criticism for many reviewers and consumers. Samsung has already introduced its S-Pen to other devices, such as tablets, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra was the first device outside of the Note line to receive S-Pen support, which has left many now questioning its fate.

Samsung insists it’s not finished with the large-screen S-Pen devices, but forwent launching a Note series this fall in lieu of releasing its foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung even introduced S-Pen support to Samsung’s flexible display devices with the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Samsung claims it skipped a 2021 Galaxy Note due to persistent component shortages stemming from the pandemic. The Galaxy S21 FE might have had similar issues, having potentially seen its launch pushed from August 2021 to January 2022. But the Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t have other devices that can potentially usurp its place in the Samsung ecosystem.

Unless Samsung has been able to keep under pretty tight wraps the names of its devices and has plans to release the Galaxy S series and Galaxy Note series at the same time, we have no reason to believe that the Galaxy S22 Ultra won’t be called the Galaxy S22 Ultra. At this point, all we can do is wait.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Specs

Current rumors suggest the Galaxy S22 Ultra might feature a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a Samsung Exynos 2200 chip or Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chip depending on the market, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of internal storage, a 5,000mAh battery, and Android 12 software a with One UI 4.0 overlay.

The device could be priced starting at $1,199.
